Jack Dee to be honoured by University of Winchester
Comedian and TV personality Jack Dee is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Winchester at a graduation ceremony being held in Winchester Cathedral on October 21.
The award will recognise his outstanding contribution to comedy, drama and the performing arts generally.
Jack Deed said: “I’m very pleased. I was hopeless throughout school. I left with four O’levels and one A’level at grade D.
“Since then, I have subsequently wished I’d tried harder at school and made more use of the opportunities that were available. So, this degree squares the circle in that respect.”
Jack Dee’s autobiography Thanks For Nothing published by Transworld is due to be released in October along with an audiobook read by the comedian.
He is starting to write the fourth series of the BBC2 sitcom Lead Balloon which portrays Rick Spleen, a disillusioned stand-up comedian and writer.
Jack Dee still has strong links with the city of Winchester having been a pupil at The Pilgrims’ School, Montgomery of Alamein School (now Kings’ School) and Peter Symonds College.
This year, the University’s graduation ceremonies take place from 21-23 October in Winchester Cathedral.
