Blood Wedding for Chesil Theatre
The Chesil Theatre, Winchester, presents Blood Wedding, the story of a couple drawn irresistibly together in the face of an arranged marriage, for a week from Saturday, October 10.
It was written by Federico Garcia Lorca in 1932 and is translated by by Gwynne Edwards and directed by Tom Williams.
Set in a village community in Andalusia, this passionate and intensely lyrical play combines realism with symbolism and the action is always enhanced by the poetry and inherent music within the text.
Written when Federico Garcia Lorca, the poet, painter, musician, theatre director and Spain’s most celebrated dramatist was at the height of his powers, it is the play on which his international reputation was founded.
The cast includes Karen Fitzsimmons as the mother of the bridegroom, Matt Corbett, and his bride Mary Stone.
Performances are at 7.45pm from Saturday, October 10 to 17, excluding Sunday. There is a matinée at 2.30pm on October 17 and tickets are available from Theatre Royal Winchester Box Office.
