Winchester families can learn about ancestors
People will be able to learn about their ancestors during a Family History Festival from October 5 to November 28 launched by Hampshire County Council.
The festival launches at the Hampshire Record Office on Monday, October 5 at 3pm, for the public to see behind the scenes and discover the original documents on the family history trail.
Several different events and activities will be taking place all around Hampshire.
A highlight will be a Family History Fair on Saturday, October 17 between 10am and 4pm at Winchester Discovery Centre.
Access is free and there will be a range of stalls, including archive films, a chance to consult experienced researchers, opportunities to access online resources, talks from a range of experts and the chance to discover how DNA testing can help find family roots.
Genealogist and broadcaster Dr Nick Barratt will be talking in Winchester about what happens behind the scenes of the ‘Who do you Think You Are?’ programmes on November 19 and authors Lilian Harry and Dan Waddell, a researcher on the WDYTYA programme who writes crime novels with a genealogist as the sleuth, will also be giving talks.
