‘Poirot’ to guide Winchester Cathedral visitors
David Suchet, best known as Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot from appearances on our television screens, is the narrator of a new audio guide to Winchester Cathedral.
Canon Roly Riem, writing in the latest newsletter, states: “For the last few months a small group of voluntary guides have been beavering away with ATS Heritage, a Hampshire company, to produce an audio guide for theCathedral…
“The aim is to give our visitors more choice about how they can learn about the living story of the building.
“Many will want to start immediately with a guided tour, and there can be no substitute for personal enthusiasm and for the ensuing human interaction, but others will want to go at their own pace, by themselves, and perhaps ask questions of our Guides once they have grasped the basics.
“As a vital part of this enterprise has been finding the right voice as narrator, we are delighted to announce that David Suchet will take the role.
“David Suchet has previously been involved with our Christmas Market when he recorded the short soundtrack, Christmas Out Loud which was played regularly in the Food Court to remind our visitors of the good news of Christ’s birth.
“As time goes by we hope to add different sorts of tour to our list, and in different languages.”
