£2m Winchester High Street contract awarded

Published by eotsum at 10:05 pm under News Edit This

A £2million contract to re-pave Winchester High Street has been awarded to Mildren Construction of Christchurch.

The scheme to re-pave the section from Middle Brook Street to Jewry Street with York stonework will begin on September 14. The first of four phases will start at the bottom of the High Street.

New benches, sign posts and litter bins will be made and installed as paving work is completed.

Southern Water will reline and replace the underground drainage pipe before repaving works begin.

The High Street will remain open for business during the works, and access to all buildings will be maintained.

Mildren will stop work for seven weeks during the Christmas shopping season from November 14 until January 3.

Dave Stokes, site liaison manager for Mildren, said: “We will endeavour to ensure that the traders and shoppers are inconvenienced as little as possible during the works. For the duration of the project we will set up a telephone and e-mail contact line so that the traders and public are able to obtain updated information on our progress.”

Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council awarded the contract.
